These businesses build and sell the software that lets you send a document out for signature and get it back signed, sealed and stored, without anyone printing it. Concretely, that means capturing a legally binding signature on a contract, offer letter, NDA or form, routing it to the right people in the right order, verifying who actually signed it, and generating a timestamped audit trail that holds up if the agreement is ever disputed. Once it's set up, a signed document flows straight back into your CRM, HR system or contract repository instead of sitting in someone's inbox as a scanned attachment.

People end up looking for this when paper, or PDF-pretending-to-be-paper, is slowing down something that should be quick. A sales deal is agreed but stuck because the customer has to print, sign, scan and email a contract back. HR is onboarding someone and waiting days for a signed offer letter. Legal can't say with confidence who signed a document or when, which becomes a real problem the moment a contract is challenged. Or a company is closing deals across several countries and discovers that a signature that's valid in one jurisdiction isn't automatically valid in another. The common thread is a bottleneck around getting a human to formally agree to something, and no reliable record of that agreement once it happens.

Most of these tools do the same basic job — send, sign, verify, store — so the differences show up in the details that matter for your specific situation. Legal standing varies: some support simple electronic signatures, others offer advanced or qualified signatures under frameworks like eIDAS, which matters if you're doing regulated or cross-border business. Identity verification ranges from a click-to-sign link, to SMS codes, to ID document checks or video verification, and the right level depends on what you're asking people to sign. Integration depth differs too — some plug tightly into your CRM or contract lifecycle management system so signed documents update records automatically, others are standalone tools you bolt on. Pricing models split between per-document, per-user and unlimited-volume plans, which changes the economics depending on whether you send five contracts a month or five thousand. When comparing providers, weigh up the jurisdictions you operate in, the volume and complexity of your signing workflows, and whether you need pure signature capture or a fuller contract management layer around it.
