DXPs layer personalisation, analytics, and multi-site management on top of either approach. DAM and ECM diverge by content type — rich media versus regulated, retention-bound documents — with different rules around metadata, permissions, and audit trails. When comparing vendors, look at how much developer time is needed to make everyday edits, how the tool integrates with your existing CRM, PIM, or DAM, what happens to your content if you migrate away later, and whether search and governance actually hold up once volume gets into the tens of thousands of assets rather than the demo dataset.
