For anything involving physical fulfilment or ongoing service, check whether you're buying software or actually buying a managed service with people behind it, since pricing and support expectations differ a lot. Across the board, worth checking: pricing model (per-seat, per-send, per-contact), how quickly you can get it running without an integration project, and whether the vendor is still actively maintaining a tool built for a fairly specific use case.
