These businesses build and sell the software that pulls marketing data out of ad platforms, CRM systems, web analytics, email tools and spreadsheets and turns it into something a marketer, agency or finance team can actually act on. In practice that means connectors into Google, Meta, TikTok and dozens of other ad and sales platforms, a warehouse or dashboard layer that blends the numbers, and some model for attributing revenue back to the campaigns, channels or creatives that produced it. For an agency it might mean white-labelled client reports that used to take a day now built in minutes; for an in-house team it might mean a live view of cost-per-acquisition by channel instead of a monthly export.
The people who go looking for this are usually stuck in one of two situations. Either their marketing data is scattered across ten different logins and someone spends a chunk of every week copying numbers into a spreadsheet to answer a simple question like "what's our return on ad spend this month", or they have plenty of data but no confidence in it — different tools claim credit for the same conversion, attribution doesn't match what finance sees, and nobody can say with certainty which spend to cut or scale. Both situations end with the same search: something that will connect to the platforms they already use and give a trustworthy, repeatable answer.
Providers split roughly into data pipeline and warehousing tools that move raw numbers into a place you already report from, dashboard and BI-style products built specifically for marketing metrics, and attribution or measurement specialists that try to solve the harder question of what actually caused a sale — using rules-based models, multi-touch statistics, or incrementality testing. Some are built for agencies managing many client accounts and charge per client or per connector; others are built for a single in-house team and charge by data volume or seat. Worth comparing: how many source platforms they actually support out of the box versus what needs custom API work, whether their attribution logic is transparent or a black box, how much technical setup is required versus how much comes pre-built, and whether the pricing model still makes sense once your ad spend or client count grows.
