These are the vendors you hire to answer a specific question: what actually happens when someone visits your site or uses your product, and what should you do about it. In practice that means instrumenting pages and events, building funnels and cohort views, running session replay or heatmaps, connecting the data to your CRM or ad platforms for attribution, and putting a dashboard in front of marketing, product and finance teams that they'll actually open. Some are aimed at a specific platform (SharePoint, a particular CMS), some are built to sit alongside or replace Google Analytics, and some specialise in a narrow job like conversion rate optimisation or server-side tracking.

People end up looking for this because the numbers they have don't answer the question in front of them. A campaign launched and nobody can say whether it worked. Conversion rate dropped and nobody knows which step in the funnel broke. Google Analytics migrated to GA4 and the reports that used to make sense don't any more. Or someone in legal has flagged that the current cookie-based tracking setup won't survive the next privacy review, and marketing still needs the data it was getting from it. Underneath most of these situations is the same gap: activity is happening, but nobody in the business can see it clearly enough to act on it.

The providers here split mainly on how they get the data and what they do with it once they have it. Some are self-hosted or privacy-first by design, giving you first-party data and consent control at the cost of more setup work; others are hosted SaaS tools that get you running in a day but put your data through their servers. Some lean hard on AI and automated insight generation, flagging anomalies and suggesting causes; others hand you raw, well-structured data and expect your team to do the analysis. A few are built to sit on top of Google Analytics and extend it, others are built to replace it outright. Worth comparing directly: how they price as your traffic grows, how much engineering time integration actually takes versus what the sales call implies, whether the reporting is genuinely self-serve for non-technical staff, and whether the vendor's data model matches how your business actually converts customers — because a tool built for ecommerce funnels won't naturally fit a long B2B sales cycle.
