These businesses get hired to make sure the right people hear about you before they've gone looking. When it works, a founder or sales team stops relying on referrals and inbound trickle and starts seeing a steady, plannable flow of meetings booked, impressions bought, or brand recognition built in a specific market.
People end up here because something isn't generating enough attention on its own. A founder is doing all the selling personally and has hit a ceiling. Others still are full-service agencies buying media across TV, out-of-home or digital, or specialists in mobile push, SMS and app engagement, or experiential agencies building physical events and activations. When comparing them, look at which channel they actually specialise in versus which they merely list, how they price (retainer, project fee, or pay-per-result), whether they execute your strategy or set it, and whether their past work is in your industry or a general portfolio.
