These are the people you hire to get an app found, installed, and actually used. Day to day that means running paid user acquisition on Apple Search Ads, Google UAC, Meta and TikTok; rewriting and testing App Store and Play Store listings (keywords, screenshots, icons, video previews) so more of the people who land on the page convert; and setting up the push notifications, in-app messages or SMS flows that bring installed users back. When it works, cost per install comes down, store conversion rate goes up, and you get a clearer read on which campaigns actually produce paying or retained users rather than just clicks.

People end up looking for this when an app is built and live but growth has stalled or gone expensive. Ad spend is going up while installs plateau or cost per install creeps past what the business can afford. The store listing hasn't been touched since launch and nobody's sure if the icon or screenshots are costing conversions. Marketing and product teams are arguing about whether the problem is the ads, the store page, or the onboarding, because nobody has attribution set up well enough to know. Often there's no one in-house who has run Apple Search Ads or done keyword-level ASO before, so campaigns are being managed on guesswork.

Providers in this space tend to specialise in one of a few directions, and that's the main thing to sort out before comparing quotes. Some are pure ASO shops — keyword research, localization, creative testing, ranking work — and won't touch paid media. Others are UA and media-buying agencies who live inside ad platforms, manage budgets, and get paid on a percentage of spend or a fixed retainer regardless of results. A smaller group focuses on lifecycle and retention: push, SMS, in-app messaging, and the segmentation behind it. Worth comparing directly: whether they specialise by platform (iOS vs Android, since Apple Search Ads and Google UAC are different disciplines), how they charge (flat fee, retainer, or percentage of ad spend), what attribution and reporting they actually give you versus what they claim credit for, and whether their case studies are in your app category — a puzzle game agency and a fintech agency solve very different acquisition problems even though both say "mobile marketing."
