These firms get hired to do the hands-on work of making a marketing automation platform function the way it was sold to you. That means building and rebuilding lead scoring models, setting up nurture tracks that actually match your sales cycle, integrating the platform properly with your CRM so leads don't stall or vanish between systems, cleaning years of accumulated database mess, and configuring campaigns, forms, and workflows inside Marketo, HubSpot, Pardot or Eloqua. Some also take on the ongoing operations role permanently — running the platform month to month as an extension of your marketing team, rather than handing back a project and leaving.
People land here because something in the marketing engine has quietly broken or never worked. A company bought Marketo or HubSpot expecting it to generate and qualify leads on its own, and eighteen months later marketing and sales are still arguing about what counts as a qualified lead, half the automation rules are duplicating or contradicting each other, and nobody left on staff understands why. The providers here solve this in two broadly different ways, and it's worth knowing which one you're buying. Some are project-based specialists — they'll audit an existing instance, fix scoring and routing, rebuild nurture flows, migrate you from one platform to another, and then leave you self-sufficient. Others act as an ongoing outsourced operations team, running campaigns and reporting on retainer indefinitely, which suits companies that never intend to hire a full-time marketing ops person. A third distinguishing factor is platform depth versus breadth: some firms are certified specialists in a single platform (often Marketo or HubSpot) and know its quirks cold, while others work across four or five tools and are better suited if you haven't picked one yet or run a hybrid stack. When comparing providers, ask about their actual platform certifications, whether they've handled a migration similar to yours, whether pricing is project-fixed or retainer-based, and whether they report into marketing metrics alone or into revenue and pipeline numbers that sales will also recognise as real.
