The businesses in this category are hired to make the actual content — not to plan campaigns or run ad accounts, but to produce the interactive stories, digital catalogues, brand publications, articles, images and video that a marketing team needs to put in front of people. Some of them are software you use yourself: platforms for building interactive brochures, digital editions of catalogues and magazines, or branded microsites without a developer. Others are marketplaces or managed services that connect you with freelance writers, designers or everyday creators who make the content on your behalf. What changes for a customer is speed and consistency: work that used to sit in a designer's queue or a freelancer's inbox for weeks now has a repeatable production line behind it.

People end up here because content has become a bottleneck rather than a strategy problem. Marketing wants to publish more often, but the design team is stretched, the agency retainer is too slow for weekly output, or nobody in-house can brief and manage a network of freelance writers and creators. Catalogues and sales collateral go stale because updating them means redoing static PDFs. Social and product pages need authentic photos and video from real customers, but sourcing that content manually — chasing people for usable, on-brand assets — doesn't scale. The common thread is a gap between how much content the business needs and how much it can actually produce with the people and tools it already has.

The providers here close that gap in different ways, and the differences matter when you're choosing between them. Some sell you the production tool and leave the work to your team — good if you have in-house designers or writers who just need faster tooling. Others sell the output as a managed service, supplying creators, writers or editors alongside the platform — better if you don't have that capacity internally but need volume and consistency. A third group focuses narrowly on one format, like interactive publications or catalogue replacement, rather than general content production. Worth comparing: whether you're buying a tool or a supply of people, how content moves from draft to approval to publish, whether it plugs into your existing product or asset data, and whether pricing scales by seat, by project, or by volume of content produced.
