These vendors are hired to get content out of your CMS and in front of people who aren't already looking for it. Concretely that means buying placements on native advertising networks so your article or sponsored post shows up as a recommended link on a news site, running "you might also like" widgets on your own pages to keep readers moving through your content, syndicating articles to partner networks, or adding share and follow buttons that make it easy for readers to spread what you've published. Once this is in place, content that used to sit on your blog or newsroom starts appearing on other people's sites, in other people's feeds, and on your own pages at moments when a reader is about to leave.

People start looking for this when they've built up a library of content — blog posts, guides, product pages, videos — and it's getting almost no traffic outside the small list of people already subscribed or following. Organic reach on social platforms has dried up, SEO takes months to pay off, and marketing needs traffic and leads now. Often there's also a related problem on-site: visitors land on one page, read it, and leave, because there's nothing pulling them to the next piece of relevant content.

The providers here split roughly into three approaches. Native advertising and content discovery networks get your content placed on third-party publisher sites, usually paid on a cost-per-click basis, and the real differences are in the quality and scale of their publisher network, minimum spend, and how much control you get over targeting and brand safety. On-site recommendation and personalization tools instead focus on your own traffic, showing readers other content based on behaviour, and compete on how good the recommendation engine actually is versus how much it inflates "related articles" clickbait. Social sharing and syndication tools are the lightest-touch option — mostly free, aimed at making existing traffic share and re-share what you publish rather than buying new traffic outright.

When comparing, look past feature lists and check the publisher inventory quality (some networks lean heavily on low-grade content-farm sites), the pricing model and whether there's a realistic minimum budget, how granular the reporting and attribution is, whether the tool is paid distribution or free amplification, and how well it plugs into the CMS and analytics stack you already run.
