The businesses in this category get hired to build and fix Salesforce orgs: configuring Sales Cloud or Service Cloud around how a team actually sells and supports customers, setting up Pardot or Marketing Cloud and connecting it back to the CRM, migrating data from a legacy system, writing the Apex and Visualforce for anything standard configuration can't handle, and wiring Salesforce into finance, support and marketing tools so records move between systems without someone re-typing them. When the work is done, a rep should be able to see the account history in one place, a manager should be able to trust the pipeline report without checking it by hand, and a new hire should be productive in the system within days rather than weeks.
Most people end up looking for this kind of help because Salesforce has stopped matching the business. Maybe it was set up years ago by whoever was around at the time, and it's now a pile of unused fields, duplicate records and workflows nobody remembers the purpose of. Maybe leadership just bought Sales Cloud, Service Cloud or a CPQ add-on and has no one internally who knows how to configure it properly. Maybe two teams — sales and support, or sales and marketing — each use Salesforce differently and nothing lines up when you try to report across them. Or the company is expanding into a new region or business line and the org needs restructuring before it can support it, and there's no in-house admin senior enough to take that on.
The providers here split roughly into large systems integrators who take on multi-cloud, multi-region rebuilds with formal project governance, and smaller specialist shops who focus on one cloud — Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, CPQ — or one industry, and move faster because the scope is narrower. Some work as pure implementation partners who hand the org back to you at go-live; others stay on as ongoing admin-as-a-service, which matters if you don't plan to hire a full-time Salesforce admin. Worth comparing: how many certified architects versus junior consultants will actually be on your project, whether they price fixed-scope or time-and-materials, what industry-specific accelerators or templates they've built before, and whether their delivery team sits in your timezone or hands off overnight to one that doesn't.
