These are the businesses that build and support packaged applications you install directly into an existing Salesforce org rather than commission from nothing. In practice that means an email and calendar connector that logs activity against the right record, a mobile form for capturing survey or inspection data in the field, a tool that reroutes leads based on territory or product line, an archiving package that pulls ageing records out of your org before storage costs and query times get out of hand, or a mapping and dashboard layer that shows reps and managers where the pipeline actually sits. What changes for the customer is usually speed and adoption: a task that used to require a workaround, a spreadsheet, or a custom build now happens inside Salesforce itself, using data that's already there.

People end up looking for this when Salesforce is doing its core job but failing at something specific around the edges. Reps aren't logging calls and emails because typing them in manually is tedious, so managers have no visibility into real activity. Field teams need to collect structured data offline and it doesn't sync cleanly. Leads sit unassigned for hours because there's no routing logic beyond round robin. The org has grown for years and is now slow and expensive to store, but nobody wants to delete anything. Or leadership wants a view of revenue, territory, or pipeline that the standard Salesforce reports simply can't produce without a lot of manual exporting.

The approaches split roughly into narrow utilities that do one job well and broader platform extensions that reshape how a team works inside Salesforce, and that distinction matters more than the marketing copy suggests. A single-purpose connector is quick to install and cheap to run but won't touch a process problem like lead assignment logic. A heavier package that restructures objects, adds custom consoles, or introduces its own data model will solve more but comes with real implementation time, admin training, and ongoing maintenance when Salesforce updates.

When comparing vendors, look at whether the app is a genuinely native Salesforce package (built on standard objects, upgradeable through normal release cycles) or a workaround that risks breaking with platform updates; how pricing scales with users versus records or storage; whether mobile and offline capability is built in or bolted on; and how much implementation and configuration support is included versus billed separately. Support responsiveness and how often the vendor ships updates in step with Salesforce's own release schedule are worth checking directly rather than taking on faith.
