These are the businesses you hire to actually buy mobile ad inventory and put it in front of the right phone at the right moment — running programmatic campaigns through a DSP, buying interstitials and rewarded video inside other people's apps, mediating between ad networks to fill your own app's inventory, or using location and device data to target people by where they've physically been. The work changes what happens day to day: instead of manually negotiating placements or guessing at budgets, you're setting targets (installs, purchases, in-store visits) and letting a platform bid across exchanges, test creative, and shift spend toward what's converting.

People end up looking for this because mobile has stopped being simple. Install costs are climbing, a campaign that worked last quarter has gone flat, or Apple's tracking restrictions have made it hard to tell which spend is actually driving results. Sometimes it's a new app trying to get any traction against much bigger budgets; sometimes it's an established app watching organic growth stall and needing paid acquisition to fill the gap. Underneath most of these situations is the same frustration: money is going out the door and nobody can say with confidence what it's buying.

The providers here solve this in different ways, and the differences matter when you're choosing one. Some are demand-side platforms giving you programmatic access to exchanges and letting you run your own bidding strategy; others are ad networks or mediation layers that package inventory and traffic for you with less control but less overhead. Some specialise in performance and user acquisition — priced on install or event, built around SKAdNetwork and mobile measurement partner integrations — while others sell location or contextual data as the targeting layer rather than running the media buy themselves. Worth comparing: how they handle post-ATT attribution, what fraud detection is built in rather than bolted on, whether pricing is CPI, CPA or CPM, what verticals they actually have buying depth in (gaming, e-commerce, finance differ a lot), and whether you get a self-serve platform or a managed team running campaigns on your behalf.
